A dominant performance on the diamond has earned Duncan 13U Dodgers the 2025 B.C. Minor Baseball provincial championship title.
The team went 2-0 at the zone tournament in Oceanside from Aug. 1 to 3 to secure their berth in the provincial event. That weekend they had a 16-6 win over Victoria Sea Wolves on Friday night, followed by a 15-5 victory over Ladysmith on Saturday morning.
The team's momentum continued at provincials in Surrey from Aug. 7 to 10, where they finished with a 6-0 record to claim the 13U A provincial banner.
"We played extremely hard all weekend," said coach Anthony Windsor. "The boys played awesome defence, and our pitching was phenomenal. Our bats came alive, and we hit a total of 10 home runs throughout the weekend."
The team’s path to victory included wins over White Rock (8-4), Oceanside (15-5), and host team Surrey (15-6). They also defeated No. 1 seed North Vancouver 8-4 on Saturday to clinch the top spot in Group A.
In the semifinals, the Dodgers defeated Victoria 19-10. They then took on the powerhouse Campbell River Tyees in the finals, wrapping up the game in five innings with a 15-3 win.
This is the second provincial title in three years for some of the players.
"It's a great accomplishment," said Windsor. "The boys played for each other, and the results showed."
In other 13U baseball news, Cowichan's Matteo Royal joined the White Rock Tritons, representing B.C. at the 13U AAA Baseball Championships Aug. 20 to 24 in Woodstock, Ont. That team had two wins and four losses to finish ninth overall.
The Duncan 10U Dodgers also made it to provincials, placing eighth overall.
