The Queen Margaret's senior boys soccer team delivered an outstanding performance at the North Island Championships in Nanaimo on Oct. 15 and 16.
The boys dominated all three of their matches with skill, confidence, and teamwork, according to head coach Nick Zuback.
"This is by far the best senior boys' soccer team QMS has ever had," added the coach.
In their opening game against Ucluelet, the Royals controlled the play from start to finish, earning a 5-0 victory. Ray Yang led the way with a hat trick, while Gideon Clarke and Ethan Chen each added a goal.
Next up was the host school, Nanaimo Christian School, and the Royals showed no signs of slowing down, cruising to a 7-0 win. Nico Peret and Ray Wang each scored three goals, while Tinaye Joy-Mujuru added one to complete the scoring.
In their final match against Duncan Christian School, the momentum continued as QMS closed out the tournament with a commanding 8-0 triumph. Peret netted four goals, Joy-Mujuru scored two, and Yang and Billy Miao each contributed one.
Goalkeepers Kai Joseph and Josiah Wood shared the duties in net, combining for three consecutive shutouts throughout the tournament.
With this dominant showing, the Royals were crowned North Island Champions and secured the number one seed in the North heading into the Vancouver Island Senior Boys A Championships on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Sherman Road turf in Duncan.
Duncan Christian School earned the second seed in the tournament and Ucluelet, the third. The three North Island teams were joined at the Island tournament by South Island winner Pacific Christian School.
The results of the event were not available at the Citizen's press time.
