Letter: North Cowichan making decisions for all

I applaud the North Cowichan council for their common sense decision making
letters

I response to the Sept. 2 opinion piece by failed CVRD candidate David Slade. I applaud the North Cowichan council for their common sense decision making. Natural gas is a safe, clean home heating fuel and walking back the previous decision of council makes complete sense. Imagine wanting to give B.C. Hydro a monopoly on home heating.

In addition to this, the evils of natural gas Mr. Slade tries to portray simply don’t exist other than in the minds of radical environmentalists, and where are all these exploding houses Mr. Slade talks about?

While a few low information anti natural gas activists may attend council meetings, the North Cowichan Council acts on behalf of it residents not on behalf of activists who may come from as far away as Cobble Hill.

In addition to this the Cowichan Valley was in large part built on logging and everyone who lives here enjoys the benefits of logging past, present and future. So before criticizing North Cowichan for allowing some logging, maybe look around and see what you live in. That’s right, a house built with lumber, from logs from a forest that has now regrown into a beautiful new forest.
