Cowichan Valley Thunder forward Addison Urquhart scored 40 points in four games playing with the Canadian Lacrosse League’s U20 Canadian men in the 2025 International Indoor Junior Lacrosse (IIJL) Commonwealth Cup.

Addison Urquhart and the Canadian Lacrosse League's U20 Canadian development team won all four of their games last week in Melbourne, Australia to retain their IIJL Commonwealth Cup title.

"It was a really great experience to play on the international level," Urquhart said. "Everyone on the team bonded right away, and I think that definitely contributed to how well we played together. I am really proud of all of us."

The Cowichan Thunder Jr B forward and Kerry Park Islanders defender kicked off the tournament on Feb. 15 against the Melbourne Storm by scoring 15 points in a 26-12 Canadian team victory. Urquhart's double-digit point tally earned him the game's Most Valuable Player honours.

Cowichan's Jesse Bell also had a goal.

The following day, Canada played the Perth Fury, winning 22-4. Urquhart scored the game's first goal and then four more for five total goals. He added another three assists for eight points overall.

It was a 20-7 victory on Feb. 17 over the Adelaide Thunder with Urquhart potting four goals and four helpers for eight points.

In the final against the Australian All-Stars on Feb. 18, Urquhart had a goal and six assists in an 18-6 Canada win.

The prolific scorer ended the four-game stretch with 38 points in four games.

First contested in 2023, the IIJL Commonwealth Cup provides players with additional opportunities to compete and develop in the sport of lacrosse outside of their home associations in an effort to achieve their individual goals of playing at higher levels.

Not to be confused with Lacrosse Canada and the Canadian national team, the CLL U20 team is a hand-picked travel team dedicated to giving high-level players international experience.
