Cowichan Valley Thunder forward Addison Urquhart has committed to the American International College Yellow Jackets on a NCAA Div. II scholarship.

Cowichan Valley lacrosse product Addison Urquhart has committed to American International College Yellow Jackets on an NCAA Div. II scholarship. He will also continue his studies at the school in Springfield, Massachusetts.

“Honestly, getting an NCAA scholarship is a dream. I don’t know if it’s sunken in yet," Urquhart said. "I have been really fortunate to have awesome coaches and teammates along the way. I’m just really thankful for all of the support, especially from Coach Bill and Coach Chris who just let me go out there and do my thing. I’m ready to head to AIC and get to work.”

Urquhart just wrapped up his junior B season with the Cowichan Thunder.

In February, Urquhart and the Canadian Lacrosse League's U20 Canadian development team went undefeated to retain their IIJL Commonwealth Cup title in Melbourne, Australia. All told, the prolific scorer ended the event with 38 points in four games.

First contested in 2023, the IIJL Commonwealth Cup provides players with additional opportunities to compete and develop in the sport of lacrosse outside of their home associations in an effort to achieve their individual goals of playing at higher levels.

Not to be confused with Lacrosse Canada and the Canadian national team, CLL teams are invitation-only and dedicated to giving high-level players international experience.

As a result of his performance in Australia, Urquhart has been selected to join the Canadian Lacrosse League’s Team Canada at the International Indoor Junior Lacrosse's (IIJL) U18 World Junior Lacrosse Championships.

So, before Urquhart heads to Springfield for school, he's stopping in East Aurora, New York for the tournament which runs Aug. 21-25.

“I’m stoked to be representing Canada with the CLL again," he said. "I hope we can get out there and have an overall outcome like we were able to do in Australia. We have a talented group going to New York and I am honoured to be rostered for a second time.”
