Peewee
The peewee Bulldogs earned their first win of the season this past weekend, beating the Oceanside Lions 14-8 on Sept. 20.
Next on the schedule is a Sept. 27 game against Nanaimo Beastmode at McAdam Park. Kickoff is 11 a.m.
Bantam
The Bantam Bulldogs played to a 50-0 win over Westside Warriors on Sept. 20.
They'll visit Comox to play the Raiders on Sept. 27.
Junior Bantam
The junior bantam Bulldogs beat the Oceanside Lions 32-8 on Sept. 21 but the victory didn't come as easily as the score might suggest.
"It was a good game but we started off a little slow," said head coach Opie Williams. "We went into halftime with just an eight-point lead. I told them to stop playing to the level of our competition. We were the better athletes, more polished, and better coached."
On offence, Charlie Freeman ran for a 60-yard touchdown in the second quarter and ended the game with eight carries for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
Rylen Heyer threw multiple bullet-passes and ended the day passing for 30 yards with a 50 per cent completion average.
Harrison Plaxton had a key reception, as well as a tackle and a key interception on the defensive side of the ball.
Plaxton, Ry Sheen and Marcus Jeet were all defensive standouts, said Williams.
Jeet had four and a half tackles, half a sack, and a forced fumble which Sheen picked up and ran into the end zone for a defensive touchdown. Sheen also had two big tackles.
"Defence was on fire and they played well the entire game but really stepped it up in the fourth," Williams said.
The JB Bulldogs play Comox on Sept. 28 at 12:30 p.m. at McAdam Park.
Midget
On Sept. 21 the midget Bulldogs met the Comox Valley Raiders for the second time in as many weeks and while they fared better than the previous week, they were still shut out.
The Bulldogs lost 37-0 — a marked improvement over the 43-0 loss from the week before.
Up next for the Bulldogs is a trip to Comox for the third straight game against the Raiders, on Sept 28.
