Letter: Forget an overpass, build a tunnel

This would aid many students in going to school
letters

Look to the past for future ideas!

A fine new university and high school has been built on the west side of a major highway. Now politicians are worried about students crossing the highway?!

An overpass that was proposed would never have been used because of the length.

I believe it was in the 1960s, the same problem occurred with students going to Somenos School and living in the Bell McKinnon Road catchment. Solution? A 2.5 metre [tunnel] UNDER the highway on Sprott Road. My wife and I use this crossing frequently on our trips to town. Remember, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

This would aid many students in going to school, and obviously benefit the eateries on the east side of the highway. Perhaps they could chip in for the [tunnel]? Naming rights, etc!

A lot less expensive that the proposed fence!
