North Cowichan news — two topics:
No. 1: The mayor, clearly focused on the evils of development, is proposing new rules requiring all contact with this group of citizens to be disclosed and disqualify council members for contact. He says he is doing so because he has heard from people that this contact is bad and erosive to the OCP (which presumably is beyond reproach). In the spirit of openness should he not disclose who is telling him this? And to ensure "blue sky" disclosure, should not all conversations with council members be disclosed?
No. 2: At the time of the recent forestry decision the monetary certainty of carbon credits was forecast, followed by recent information from Mr. Rusland that it would be "millions" for North Cowichan's treasury. This sure thing has been talked about for years but no money. I propose we set up a citizen committee (with a modest budget) to "bring it home". Members could include Mr. Rusland and Larry Pynn, with myself as non voting recording secretary.
