Letter: CVRD should fund art gallery

It will pay huge long-term dividends in arts tourism and local arts' appreciation
letters

Dear CVRD directors, plus North Cowichan and Duncan councillors:

Please budget financial support soonest for downtown Duncan’s non-profit Cowichan Public Art Gallery. It will pay huge long-term dividends in arts tourism and local arts' appreciation.

More and more patrons and members firmly aim to make this prescient facility a reality.

One CVRD director rightly claims Cowichan — among North America’s highest number of artists per-capita — is thankfully “awash in art.” That’s all the more reason to prudently grow this inclusively vital economic engine by granting annual line-budget funding for CPAG staff to bird-dog provincial and federal grants, more donors plus generous art donations.

The art gallery’s financial spin-offs and emotional positives are potentially massive — and great bang for our buck.

Yours in arts and culture,

Peter W. Rusland
