Head shave highlights Tour de Rock fundraising concert in Duncan

Annual Tour de Rock benefit concert brings community together to raise money for childhood cancer

Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock riders Constable Kyle Hicks with the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP, Paramedic Jen Carter with BCEHS, and Cowichan Valley's own Community Rider Will Arnold were among the many who attended the Tour de Rock concert held at Red Arrow Brewing in Duncan on Sept. 6.

While attendees enjoyed the sounds of Maxwell Smart, the taste of barbecue courtesy of Save-On-Foods, silent auctions and other shenanigans it was more than an evening of fun and games. Everyone was there to help raise money not only for childhood cancer research, but to also help send kids who are battling cancer to Camp Goodtimes next July. This annual benefit concert has raised more than $42,000 over the past two years.

One special and inspiring kid who attended this year's Tour de Rock concert was 12-year-old Adalyn Richens, daughter of Constable Wes Richens who rode to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer in the 2023 Tour de Rock. Adalyn, who was immediately inspired by what her dad was doing, wanted to take part in the live shave that same year alongside her older sister; but her parents decided at the tender age of 10 she couldn't fully understand the commitment.

Two years later, her commitment did not waver as she not only created her own page as part of Team Will Arnold where she has already exceeded her $3,000 goal by nearly $2,000, but also took part in this year's live head shave. Her dad Wes did the honours, then she was given that same honour and the clippers to give Arnold a matching look.
