The Cowichan 49ers got their first win of the season, shutting out the Prospect Lake Lakers 6-0.
Mike “Glass” Carroll stole the show with a hat trick, covering every blade of turf and leading the 49ers’ attack. Jake Byrne’s relentless work rate was rewarded with a brace, while veteran Blair Sturrock added one of his own.
At the back, Darian Achurch recorded his first shutout of the season, keeping Prospect Lake off the board.
"Credit to the visitors, who battled hard despite fielding only 12 players," said team player-manager Neall Rowlings.
The 49ers look ahead to Friday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Sherman Road Turf, where they’ll host Nanaimo A, the reigning Provincial B Cup champions.
"It promises to be a battle, and with Cowichan built differently, the squad is ready," Rowlings said.

Cowichan Axis FC kicked off their Div. 1 soccer season on Sept. 12 against Gorge FC.
Gorge wasted no time finding the back of the net taking a 3-0 lead but Cowichan rallied late in the first half when newcomer Patrick Izzett slid a pass across the box to another new, but familiar face in Thompson Nelson, leading to a composed finish to bring one back just before the half time whistle.
In the second half, a handball in the box led to a penalty shot for Cowichan, which was converted by Devin Jack.
With Cowichan pressing there was room for Gorge to hit on the counter attack. Cordelle Jack was able to thwart a few attacks making important close range saves but was eventually beaten to put the game out of reach at 4-2.
Cowichan returns to action on Sept. 19 in Victoria against Vic West U23.
Div 3
Cowichan Oak met FC Sagres on Sept. 13 and produced a 4-2 victory thanks to a hat trick from Al Smith. Assists went to Sam Smith, Tristin Price, and Antony Van Cleave.
Keeper Alex De Graaf came up big with a couple of massive saves that preserved the 2-1 lead at a critical moment, allowing the squad to build momentum.
The team showed impressive chemistry for this early stage of the season, moving the ball with confidence and linking up well in the attack.
Cowichan travels to play Gorge on Sept 21.
