A new transportation service for seniors has opened in Cowichan.
Paul McGregor has recently started Rise and Shine - Companionship Care & Rides and has begun taking bookings.
Rise and Shine offers seniors safe and reliable rides to appointments, shopping and social outings; assistance with groceries, small tasks and daily needs; as well as friendly visits, conversation, hobbles, walks and emotional support.
“We make everyday life brighter, safer and easier for seniors to stay at home,” McGregor said on his Facebook page.
“We also go and do errands and pick up prescriptions. Call us for any appointments you have, as well as rides to the airport or the ferry terminal. Call us for a free quote.”

Spirits are on the loose at Merridale Cidery & Distillery this autumn.
Merridale is hosting numerous events this fall, including a Harvest for Hounds Market on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Local vendors will showcase handmade goods at this fall pop-up market.
Tickets include a cup of hot apple cider, and 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to support BC and Alberta Guide Dogs.
Then there’s the Spirit Scavenger Hunt on Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
It’s an adults-only scavenger hunt through the distillery, orchard, and farmhouse.
Participants are encouraged to wear costumes as they solve riddles, find mischievous “spirits,” and earn tasting pours for every correct answer.
As well, on Thanksgiving weekend on Oct. 10-13, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Merridale will be serving up a farm-fresh turkey dinner with all the fixings.
“Bring the family for a cozy plate of turkey, stuffing, and seasonal sides; or, for groups of 10 or more, join us around a long table for a family-style feast,” Merridale said.
“It will be just like home, but with no dishes to wash.”
Book now for any or all of these events on Merrdiale’s website.

Tim Hortons is celebrating this year's National Coffee Day, which was Sept. 29, with the return of four vintage hot beverage cup designs that capture some of the brand's iconic looks through the decades.
The limited-edition cups began rolling out across the country last week and will be available while supplies last.
The four cups feature designs from the 1960s, 1980s, and two from the 2010s.
"We're proud that millions of Canadians have started their day with their favourite coffee, made with the same secret recipe since 1964,” said Hope Bagozzi, chief marketing officer for Tim Hortons.
“We're so excited to showcase some iconic designs from the past with our National Coffee Day cup collection. It'll be a trip down memory lane at Tims and while guests will be randomly served one of the four vintage cup designs, we know some may want to try to collect them all.”
