A Campbell River woman has died after suffering a life-threatening stab wound in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Oct. 12, Campbell River RCMP responded to a report of a possible stabbing in the 1300 block of Dogwood Street, in downtown Campbell River.

Police say an officer conducting proactive patrols in the downtown area responded to the scene in under a minute after the call was received. The first officer was able to identify and apprehend a 29-year-old suspect as she was leaving the area.

Two other responding officers arrived quickly and began life-saving measures for a female victim who had suffered a life-threatening stab wound, according to the RCMP. Unfortunately, despite the emergency medical efforts of police, Campbell River Fire and BC Ambulance couldn't save the victim, who succumbed to her injuries.

According to court documents obtained by the Mirror, which were filed in Campbell River on Oct. 12, the victim was 30-year-old Victoria Nesbitt.

On Sunday evening, police say 29-year-old Pauline Bruce was charged with second-degree murder. Bruce remains in police custody.

A thorough investigation is still ongoing, carried out by the Major Crime Unit of Campbell River RCMP, North Island RCMP Forensics, and the 'C' Watch of Campbell River RCMP, according to the police.

Police were able to speak to several witnesses at the scene. However, some people left the crime scene area before talking to the police. Any witnesses to this crime who have not yet spoken to police should contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
