Victoria has once again earned international acclaim, being named the best Small City in the World by Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards for the third consecutive year.
Victoria topped the list ahead of destinations such as Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (2); Florence, Italy (3); Lucerne, Switzerland (4); and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico (5).
No other Canadian city made the list.
“This achievement reflects the quality and dedication of our members and their teams, whose passion for service and hospitality sets Greater Victoria apart on the global stage,” said Paul Nursey, CEO of Destination Greater Victoria.
More than 757,000 readers took part in this year’s vote, sharing insights and ratings on the destinations they most look forward to returning to.
“A popular day trip from Vancouver, British Columbia’s capital city deserves a standalone visit. Arrive via one of the world’s most scenic ferry rides across Swartz Bay,” penned the travel publication. “With a reputation as the most British town in Canada, most restaurants and hotels offer a proper high tea.”
Summer numbers at the Victoria International Airport underline that appeal, with record passenger traffic surpassing 600,000 travellers over the summer – including 190,000 in June, 207,000 in July, and 227,000 in August.
BC Ferries also reported record movement over the same period, carrying 9.4 million passengers and 3.7 million vehicles between mid-May and late August.
Victoria’s charm continues to draw visitors from around the world.
Known for its oceanfront living, world-class attractions, and farm-to-table dining, the city’s blend of coastal beauty, culture, and sustainability has become its defining hallmark.
Recognized as one of North America’s most sustainable destinations on the Global Destination Sustainability Index, Victoria was the first urban destination in Canada or the U.S. to earn Biosphere Certification in 2023, a designation it successfully recertified in both 2024 and 2025.
“This award highlights what makes Greater Victoria exceptional and why we are so proud to share our region with the world,” added Nursey. “Our commitment is to deliver authentic, memorable experiences and to keep raising the bar for responsible, welcoming tourism.”
