Vancouver Rise FC Academy lose at home against Gotham FC

The Gotham FC defeated the Rise FC Academy 4-1 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby in its second match in the group stage of the Concacaf Women's Champions Cup.

Gotham FC's Josie Hasbo scored the first goal of the match in the ninth minute, followed by Katie Stengel in the 12th. 

Rise FC's Anna Bout's goal put Vancouver on the board.

"Anaïs Oularbi streaked behind the defence and fired off a shot that smashed against the near post, but rebounded perfectly for Bout to sweep in for 2-1," noted a Rise FC press release Tuesday (Sept. 16). 

At the start of the second half, Gotham FC's  Esther González scored. The last goal was scored in the 90 +3 minute by Bruninha. 

Gotham FC held possession 81 per cent of the match and took 18 shots, five of which were on goal, while the Rise FC Academy took six shots, one of which was on goal. 

Vancouver Rise FC Academy, formerly known as Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy, is a full-time development program that has a "standardized national curriculum" for U15-U18 female players that feeds into Canada Soccer's women's national EXCEL program. 

The Rise FC Academy's next match is on Oct. 2 at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, Mexico, as they face off against CF Monterrey for the third match of the group stage of the Women’s Champions Cup.
