Another wildfire west of Becker Lake has broken out near Lavington.
BC Wildfire Service says the fire was reported in the early afternoon of Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 13.
As of just before 5 p.m., the fire was listed at five hectares in size and categorized as out of control.
“It’s calmed down mostly to Rank 1 (smouldering ground fire) as it’s getting cooler in the evening,” said Kamloops Fire Centreregional wildfire coordination officer Wes Leduc.
An out of control fire means the wildfire is spreading or is anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter or control line.
Leduc said one BCWS initial attack crew is on the fire, as are members of the Lavington Volunteer Fire Department with someof its equipment.
“They will provide updates in the evening, and tomorrow, we will re-assess the fire and get more resources to it,” said Leduc.
The cause of the fire is currently listed as undetermined.
A wildfire broke out on the same side of Highway 6 on Sept. 5, and Noble Canyon Road, which leads to Becker Lake, wasclosed to traffic.
