Jimmy Snuggerud scored twice, leading the visiting St. Louis Blues to a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks in NHL action Monday at Rogers Arena.
Brayden Schenn, Nick Bjugstad and Jake Neighbours also tallied for the Blues (2-1-0), while Jordan Binnington made 29 stops to earn the win in goal.
Kiefer Sherwood scored both goals for Vancouver (1-2-0). Kevin Lankinen made his first start of the year in goal for the Canucks and made 30 saves in absorbing the loss.
St. Louis opened the scoring 8:48 into the first period, after a point shot went off the stick of former Canuck Pius Suter right to Snuggerud, who beat Lankinen from the left offensive circle.
The Blues held that 1-0 lead through the first 20 minutes, outshooting the Canucks 10-8.
Schenn upped the St. Louis lead to 2-0 2:10 into the second period. Philip Broberg made a nice stretch pass to Jordan Kyrou, who turned and had his pass bounce off the stick of Vancouver's Drew O'Connor and right to Schenn, who beat Lankinen.
Sherwood's first of the game, off a feed from Atu Räty, pulled Vancouver within one 5:33 into the period.
Snuggerud, on the power play with Vancouver forward Elias Pettersson in the penalty box, restored the two-goal margin at 3-1 at 8:13.
Sherwood struck again, this time unassisted and shorthanded, beating Binnington with a nifty deke at 12:12, to pull Vancouver within 3-1. Sherwood now has three goals on the season.
The St. Louis fourth line then got on the board, with Alexandre Texier breaking loose on an odd-man rush and finding Nathan Walker, whose shot was ruled to have gone in off Bjugstad in front of Lankinen at 13:45. St. Louis held a 25-19 shots on goal advantage after 40 minutes.
In the third, Vancouver pulled Lankinen for an extra attacker with more than three minutes left to play, but were unable to beat Binnington. Neighbours sealed the win with his third goal of the year into an empty net after a blocked shot at 17:47.
