William Eaton enjoys a swim in Okanagan Lake on Sept. 17. The 95-year-old Summerland man had a lake swim as one of his goals.

When 95-year-old William Eaton set out a list of things he wanted to accomplish, the top item on his list was one last swim in Okanagan Lake.

On Sept. 17, he accomplished that goal, accompanied by his companion care worker, Laurie Kenzie.

The Summerland man had his swim at Rotary Beach during the warmest part of the day.

When he was at the lake, he said not only did he want to swim, but he wanted to swim in the nude, which he did. He took off his shorts in the lake and put them back on before he got out of the water.

After his swim, people at the beach came up to him, shook his hand and congratulated him, Kenzie said.

Eaton, a resident of Summerland Seniors Village, has been an avid swimmer who loves swimming in rivers, lakes and the ocean.

He added that he wants to keep swimming and said it has been far too long since he has been able to get wet. He has been dreaming of this swimming experience for a long time.
