Police have confirmed a second man has died after he drowned in Cultus Lake this week.
The incident happened around 7:12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30 where Chilliwack RCMP were called out to Sunnyside Campground for an unresponsive man who was found under the water.
"CPR was immediately commenced by people on scene, and by emergency services when they arrived. Unfortunately, the male was declared deceased at scene," Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill stated in an email to The Chilliwack Progress.
The victim was a 36-year-old man from Richmond. He was camping at Sunnyside with his friends.
It was the second drowning in three days. On Thursday, Aug. 28, a man died after drowning at Entrance Bay.
Mulvihill called the events "tragic" and shared a message about being safe on the water.
"Chilliwack RCMP would like to remind people that there are some sharp drop offs in Cultus Lake. People who may not be strong swimmers should wear life jackets and be very aware of their surroundings once in the water," she said.
"When going to a unfamiliar body of water, read the signs posted in the area. Go into the water with a friend and stay with that person. As unfashionable as life jackets may be, if you can not swim please wear a life jacket."
