The life of big ships and open seas has been a home-away-from-home for twins Lori and Jodi (Bartlett), who have each chosen career paths away from land-locked Telkwa where they lived until the end of Grade 10.
Captain Lori Bartlett-Tribbeck is Senior Captain of the BC Ferry Northern Adventure. The ship has two routes. The longest route is “the inside passage” from mainland Prince Rupert to Port Hardy on the northern tip of Vancouver Island.
The second return route is between mainland Prince Rupert and across Hecate Straight to the landing at Skidegate, Haida Gwaii.
BC Ferries is proudly displaying photos of Lori and two other women Senior Captains, on banners around many of our BC fleets and coastal terminals.
The Bartlett twins have their birthdays in September and the elder sister, by just minutes, Jodi Bartlett-Gaudet is Senior Chief Engineer on the BC ferry, Island Kwigwis, which sails between Nanaimo and Gabriola Island.
Jodi will shortly be getting a new ship. BC Ferries is having four hybrid-electric, island-class vessels built in Romania. Engineer Gaudet will be Senior Chief Engineer on the first one that arrives.
Gaudet may, as well, have a trip to Romania to participate in sea trials before the ship sails to Canada in early 2026.
The jobs for both of the twins, who have been on their own career paths for over 30 years, is ever-changing. Lori’s path takes her into the world of electronic charts, GPS and Jodi’s path is moving her into the world of electric vessels.
