In loving memory ~

Butler, Richard John — 68, died on July 27, 2025, with his wife and children at his side. He leaves behind his wife Nadine and their children Bjarne (Jasmin), Erica (Nick), Kelsey (Byron), and Ryan (Kierstyn). Richard cherished being "Papa" to his four grandchildren: Jasper, Jaxon, Isla, and Eleanor. He is survived by his siblings: Leonard, Teresa, Deborah, and Robert.

Richard was born and raised on Vancouver Island. He took pride in his roots as a descendant of early pioneers and in his Hawaiian (Kanaka) heritage.

For over forty years, Richard worked in the forest industry as a faller and instructor. He was passionate about the industry, and he was committed to his students' success. Outside of work, Richard volunteered with industry associations, where he focused on improving safety standards.

In his free time, Richard loved boating. The family spent many happy summers camping at Sproat Lake. Richard was a natural athlete who excelled at all water sports, except barefoot skiing. That spectacular misadventure remains a favourite campfire story for his family.

At home, Richard was a fantastic cook whose specialty was pancakes. He was also an enthusiastic dancer, favouring swing and Latin. His excellent food and fancy footwork will be missed by many.

Honouring Richard's request, his family has arranged for his cremation and will gather for a private celebration of his life. They would like to thank the staff at Cairnsmore Place for providing excellent care and compassion over the past few weeks.
