Police confirm found B.C. remains are those of missing Jessica Cunningham

Cunningham's remains discovered in her Maple Ridge home a month after she was reported missing in July

Homicide investigators have confirmed the human remains found in Maple Ridge are of Jessica Cunningham.

Cunningham, 43, had been reported missing July. On Aug. 26, Ridge Meadows RCMP were at her home in the 22800 block of Gillis Place gathering information for the missing person investigation. The remains were found at her home.

On Aug. 27, the B.C. Prosecution Service laid a charge of indignity to human remains against Mylie Andre Barron in relation to this investigation.

“Investigators continue to work to understand the circumstances that led to Jessica’s death,” said Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi, IHIT spokesperson. “Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones.”

Friends and loved ones held a vigil in front of the house where Cunningham lived at Gillis Place on Sunday, Sept. 7, with prayers and a moment of silence.

"We've all got to be together. We're all grieving. We're all going to miss her. We're all going to prove that she was the most beautiful soul," said her friend Krissy Rasko.

A Facebook page for a Mylie Andre Barron, containing the same photo released by police in their search for Cunningham, states he is originally from Esquimalt, but is now living in Vancouver.

Barron is scheduled to be in court on Friday, Sept. 26, in Port Coquitlam. A publication ban has been ordered.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has worked with Ridge Meadows RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service to advance the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation can call the IHIT information line 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected].
