Osborne Bay Pub in Crofton is ready to rock this September with live music: electrifying Saturday night shows, a Sunday afternoon jazz series, and the ever-popular Boogie By the Bay Blues Jam. Here’s what’s on the calendar.
Kick things off on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. with The Journeymen: The Best of Clapton & Santana. This high-energy tribute act pays homage to two of rock’s most influential guitarists. Expect soulful ballads like Eric Clapton’s "Layla" and the Latin-infused fire of Carlos Santana’s "Black Magic Woman", delivered with virtuoso musicianship and stage presence that channels the legends themselves. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
On Saturday, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m., it’s time for Mardi Gras Mambo. More than just a concert, it’s a party straight out of New Orleans. With costumes, masks, beads and infectious energy, the band transports audiences to the heart of the Big Easy. Featuring Bruce Gerrish (guitar/vocals), Doc Fingers (piano/vocals), Paul Wainwright (sax), John Ellis (guitar/pedal steel) and “Voodoo” Dave McGrath (congas), the group brings decades of experience and unforgettable renditions of hits by Louis Armstrong, Jellyroll Morton, Dr. John, The Neville Brothers, Lee Dorsey and more. Tickets are on Eventbrite.
The Sunday Jazz series returns on Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. with Lady O & The Omen. Led by bassist and vocalist Orith, the band blends jazz, pop, blues and R&B into a joyful mix guaranteed to lift spirits. Tickets are $20 at the door, presented by the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society.
No month is complete without the Boogie By The Bay Jam, every third Thursday of the month. September’s edition lands on Sept. 18 at 7 p.m., hosted by Sasquatch Music. Cover is $10 at the door, with free entry for jammers.
On Saturday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m., Yukon-born Brandon Isaak takes the stage with his guitar, harmonica, and the blues. A three-time Juno nominee and four-time Maple Blues Award nominee, Isaak has spent nearly four decades honing his craft and making a name for himself as one of Canada’s premier blues artists. He has toured Europe 13 times and performed in eight countries across three continents. With gravelly vocals, raw storytelling and authentic 1940s-50s blues stylings, Isaak’s thoughtful and thought-provoking lyrics blend humour, introspection and spirituality. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
Stretch first, then get ready to dance on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. with Johnny Inappropriate. Known for their high-energy shows, this dance/rock cover band has kept crowds dancing since 2004 with a wide repertoire and nonstop fun. From festivals to corporate events, they’ve built a reputation as one of the Island’s most entertaining party bands. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
Rounding out the month, jazz guitarist Andrew Janusson brings his quartet to the pub on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. With influences like Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell, Janusson has earned a reputation for expressive, swinging interpretations of jazz classics from the swing and bebop eras. Tickets are $20 at the door, presented by the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society.
