A newlywed couple from Chilliwack got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when they had their first dance onstage at a Jonas Brothers concert in Vancouver in front of thousands of people.
Kenzie and Parker Roach went straight from their wedding at Honeymoon Bay in Cultus Lake to the concert at Rogers Arena on Thursday, Sept. 18.
"We had our ceremony and then just ran off to the concert," she said.
Still in her wedding dress and he in his tuxedo, 29-year-old Kenzie and 26-year-old Parker danced onstage in each others arms to song 'When You Look Me In The Eyes'.
"It was our first dance," Kenzie said.
The brothers – Nick, Kevin and Joe – from the American pop rock band smiled and gestured to the couple as they sang, while Kenzie and Parker sang right along with them.
The whole day came about fairly quickly.
The two had been engaged for two and a half years and could not figure out their wedding-day plans. They had bought presale tickets to the concert and finally decided in August to have their wedding on Sept. 18 to coincide with the Jonas Brothers concert. They upgraded their tickets to the pit and in 29 days, the two planned the entire wedding.
When the brothers were taking song requests at the concert, Kenzie shouted out a song which got the attention of Joe Jonas.
"My mom said this would be the best wedding song ever," she said. "So I requested that song and after they said 'You're coming onstage.'"
They watched the show from their seats and halfway through one song, security came to get them to take them backstage where they met and chatted with Frankie Jonas. The couple did a formal walk-in onto the stage, which they were not expecting.
Although nervous backstage, Kenzie said she felt very comfortable and safe onstage.
"The brothers have that aura about them. It was like 'We got you. Do your thing. Enjoy this moment,'" she said. "It was one of those times where you completely immerse yourself in the experience."
She said it was "amazing" to look out at the crowd.
Parker said he wasn't very nervous and tried not to think about it while onstage.
"It was a pretty crazy experience," he said.
They both agreed that Kenzie is the bigger Jonas Brothers fan.
People have been sharing videos and photos with them since their big day.
"We planned for a small wedding and now it is a viral wedding," Kenzie said. "I want to thank everybody who has seen it, and shared the love, and took photos and videos and shared them with us. We're so extremely grateful."
