Nanaimo RCMP are asking members of the public to try to help them identify a person of interest who tried to pawn a banjo a short time after it was stolen.
Police say the theft occurred Oct. 24, when a vehicle was broken into along Victoria Crescent. A backpack was stolen that contained a MacBook Pro laptop computer and a banjo.
"A short time after the theft was reported, the individual shown attempted to pawn a similar-style banjo at a nearby pawn shop. The sale was refused and the unidentified person left with the item," noted a police press release.
The person of interest is described as 35-45 years old with brown hair and a moustache. At the time of the attempted sale, he was wearing a grey t-shirt, grey sweatpants, and a black ball cap worn backward.
Police describe the five-string banjo as unique and hand-made.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP's non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and cite file No. 2025-32015.
