The alleged suspect in a theft of a senior's handcrafted walking cane has turned out to be another senior.

Nanaimo RCMP issued a press release Wednesday, Oct. 8, sharing a surveillance issue of a woman suspected to have taken the cane in an incident two weeks ago at Woodgrove Centre.

RCMP previously stated that the unique cane was taken from a shopping cart near the entrance of a coffee shop at the mall on Sept. 23 from a woman who was "reeling" from the loss of the family heirloom.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP's non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, citing file No. 2025-30840.
