Music lovers and plant-based advocates will come together on Oct. 9 for a night of Music Bingo at Plantitude. Hosted by local favourite MC Beckstar, the event is a fundraiser for VegFest Nanaimo.
The event, presented by Positively Vegan, blends entertainment and advocacy with a fun, welcoming atmosphere. Tickets are $20 in advance. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with games starting at 7. Early arrival is encouraged. Guests will enjoy music bingo with prizes, 10 per cent off purchases over $20, a silent auction, a 50/50 draw and other giveaways.
For MC Beckstar (Rebecca Johnson), the event is both personal and purposeful.
“I wanted to team up with Positively Vegan for this special event for several reasons,” she said. “On a personal level, it's been very rewarding to partner with a non-profit whose focus aligns with mine for a more compassionate world.”
Proceeds will help fund VegFest Nanaimo, a free, family-friendly festival held each July at Maffeo Sutton Park. The annual event features food trucks, vendors, speakers and performers and draws attendees from across the region.
Positively Vegan, the non-profit behind VegFest, works year-round to produce accessible plant-based events in communities across B.C. Their mission includes building community, supporting local businesses, and making plant-based living approachable for all.
MC Beckstar, who has hosted multiple events and fundraisers for the organization and hosts regular and pop-up events around the Island, said the energy of what she does fits perfectly.
“The vibes at Music Bingo nights have this amazing energy that brings people together through rhythm and laughter — so blending that with their mission just felt right.”
The event will be held at Plantitude plant-based restaurant in downtown Ladysmith, known for its hearty comfort food, creative dishes and commitment to sustainability.
Guests can expect prizes that spotlight local businesses and an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome — whether attendees are vegan, veg-curious or just in it for the tunes. Tickets are available online.
As MC Beckstar put it: “It’s playful, it’s meaningful, and it’s the kind of night where you walk away lighter, inspired, and part of something bigger than yourself.”
