Historian R.G. Collingwood once wrote “History is for human self-knowledge; the only clue to what man can do is what man has done."
This is a fitting reminder of the importance of the Mill Bay Malahat Historical Society's work as they bring the past to the present with their upcoming workshop 'History Needs a Future" on Sept. 13.
The hands-on workshop intends to bring together volunteers, members, and neighbours in a collaborative process to ensure the preservation and growth of local history for future generations.
Participants will take part in review of the mission and objectives that will reflect on the Society’s purpose and values in today’s context, SWOT Analysis which identifies strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats currently facing the society, and strategic planning, which envisions the future through ideas such as a new site, expanded exhibits, community events, and volunteer growth.
The workshop will be held in-person at the Mill Bay Community Hall located at 1035 Shawnigan/Mill Bay Rd. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to learning and contributing ideas, attendees will enjoy a friendly and engaging atmosphere along with a delicious lunch.
