A 26-year-old man has been sentenced in connection with a shooting and arson investigation in Colwood last year, while a second suspect remains at large.
On Sept. 26, Abjeet Kingra was sentenced in Victoria provincial court for his role in the Sept. 2, 2024 incident on Ravenwood Road at the home of Indo-Canadian rapper AP Dhillon.
Kingra received six years for discharging a firearm into a residence and two years for arson, to be served simultaneously. With credit for time already served in custody since his arrest in Ontario last October, he has about four and a half years left to serve. He is also under a lifetime firearms ban.
The court heard Kingra was connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi crime group in India and was acting on its instructions to carry out targeted criminal acts in Canada.
The charges stem from an incident in which West Shore RCMP responded to reports of shots fired and found two vehicles in flames outside a home. Police evacuated a resident from the house while the Colwood Fire Department extinguished the fires. No injuries were reported.
A second suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Vikram Sharma, who is wanted on charges of arson and discharging a firearm with intent. Police believe he is currently in India, and an arrest warrant remains in effect.
“The sentencing of Abjeet Kingra is the result of months of dedicated investigative work by our officers,” said Insp. Stephen Rose. “While we are pleased to see accountability in this case, our work is not done. We remain committed to locating Vikram Sharma and bringing him before the courts.”
Sharma is described as a South Asian male, 5’9” (174 cm), 181 pounds (82 kg), with black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information about Sharma’s whereabouts is asked to contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
