Letter: Many flaws in downtown Duncan

Speed zones, bike lanes, scramble crossing
letters

Why I stay out of downtown Duncan, let me count the ways!

In the first place is the absolutely silly arrangement of speed zones throughout the town. For example on Canada Avenue in one kilometre there are three speed zones!

The second place goes to the scramble crossing. They (civic government, Victoria) tried that at the corner of Yates Street and Douglas Street it didn't last long! That kind of crossing control works in cities like Tokyo and Singapore but in Duncan it makes no sense at all. When that four way stop occurs it plugs up traffic from Trunk Road to Sherman Road.

Third, the bike lanes! Especially by the theatre. It's ludicrous! Like building a one lane freeway on an island in a stream that no one uses.

Fourth, don't get me started on the hydro poles in the middle of the sidewalk. The whole situation is preposterous and should be changed.

Fifth, well you know where I'm going with this rant.

What we need is a change in civic government to someone who has a grasp on reality. Good luck getting that.
