Letter: Logging protesters are heroes

Profiteering from clear-cut logging in the Upper Walbran, thus inevitably destroying its watershed, are reprehensible crimes in our era of climate crisis.

British Colombia’s current NDP government, logging corporations Tsawak-quin Forestry (Western Forests Products Inc. and Huumis Ventures Ltd.Partnership) and the judiciary enabling them, are the ones that should be arrested — not the courageous, wise and peaceful land defenders committed to defending our Great Mother Earth.

Equally repugnant are the ‘divide and conquer’ strategies masquerading as Reconciliation.

Over eons Indigenous Peoples have been forced into poverty and dependency through brutal colonial repression. For those same agents to now unevenly offer to “share resource extraction profits” on stolen territories is beyond hypocritical!

Pacheedaht Elder William Jones is a profoundly intelligent and spiritual teacher. He and his dedicated supporters are our true modern heroes.

A quote from Seth Klein’s book, A Good War: “Fighting the climate crisis is our collective moral responsibility. And blocking effective and meaningful climate action is the work of scoundrels — irresponsible and cynical political and economic interests.”
