A group of 11 Vancouver Island artists is inviting the public to experience their latest work at Ladysmith Gallery with a show dedicated to creativity, joy and discovery.
Titled For the Love of Art, For the Joy of It, the group show runs from Aug. 21 to 31 at Ladysmith Gallery at 32 High St., open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Around 70 paintings will be displayed, including artist cards and smaller works.
Participating artists are Sylvie Bart, Sarah Boileau, Trudy Broadley, Maureen Coles, Janice Evans, Halina Grzyb, Zann Hemphill, Charlotte Mougeot, Catherine Taron, Eileen Williamson and Marina Wright.
All 11 artists have shown their work in galleries across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland. Most are members of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Nanaimo Artists Group, and many have picked up awards at juried shows over the past few years.
“These artists are companions on a journey of discovery,” Ladysmith Arts said in a release about the show. “They share a love of art, share the joy of connecting with the world around them.”
The exhibition showcases a range of styles and subject matter, from bright and joyful storytelling to island-inspired landscapes.
At least one artist will be present in the gallery each day, often sketching or painting. Visitors are welcome to ask questions and engage with the artists on site.
Above all, the show is about celebrating the joy of creativity.
“What these 10 friends have in common is the strong connection to life, to the island, to all that is precious and beautiful,” the release said. “Their art is a way to connect, to share and to celebrate."
Whether you just want to have a look or have a conversation with an artist, all are welcome and admission is free.
