The Town of Ladysmith has extended the public input period and hope to hear feedback from residents on the draft Accessibility Plan.

Ladysmith residents now have more time to weigh in on the draft Accessibility Plan.

Originally set to close Oct. 14, the public input period has been extended to Oct. 29 to allow broader community participation.

“This decision to extend the deadline was made to ensure that all residents within our community have an opportunity to provide feedback,” said Nicholas Pescod, the town’s communication and engagement specialist. “We recognize that people have busy schedules and different ways of engaging, and by allowing additional time, we hope to hear from a broader range of voices.”

The Accessibility Plan is available for review on the Let’s Talk Ladysmith website, with printed copies available beginning Oct. 6 at the Frank Jameson Community Centre and City Hall.

Feedback can be submitted online through the platform, which requires account registration and basic demographic information. This information is kept confidential and helps support more representative decision-making. Those who prefer not to register can submit comments by emailing [email protected].

Developed by the town’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, the draft plan outlines strategies to identify, remove and prevent barriers in municipally owned properties and public spaces. It meets requirements under the Accessible BC Act and is intended to evolve through ongoing engagement.

The plan is grounded in six principles: inclusion, adaptability, diversity, collaboration, self-determination and universal design.

The committee, formed in 2023, includes people with disabilities, representatives from disability-serving organizations and town officials. It will continue to provide guidance and monitor implementation.
