Water restrictions have been downgraded from Stage 3 to Stage 2 in Ladysmith.

The Town of Ladysmith moved from Stage 3 to Stage 2 water restrictions on Oct. 3, due to cooler, wetter conditions and a drop in local water demand.

The change applies to the Town of Ladysmith, Stz’uminus First Nation and the Diamond Improvement District, and will remain in place until further notice.

Under Stage 2, lawn sprinkling is permitted for up to two hours on designated days; Wednesdays for even-numbered addresses and Sundays for odd-numbered ones. Hand-watering and drip irrigation for vegetable gardens and fruit trees is allowed for up to four hours per day.

Outdoor watering is not permitted between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. when evaporation is highest. Residents are encouraged to water in the evening, nighttime or early morning to reduce waste and manage peak demand.

Ladysmith has been under Stage 3 restrictions since Aug. 5. A full list of permitted and prohibited activities under Stage 2 is available on the town's website.
