There will be an overnight closure on Island Highway Saturday to allow for construction on the Galloping Goose Pedestrian Bridge.
The City of Colwood is advising motorists that the highway is expected to be closed between Wale Road and Goldstream Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 11) to 1 a.m. Sunday. To minimize disruption, a detour will be in place directing traffic along Wale Road and Goldstream Avenue. Detour signage will be clearly posted, and traffic control personnel will be on-site.
Local traffic access will be available and emergency vehicles will be given priority access at all times.
The Galloping Goose Regional Trail is a picturesque multi-use trail that runs through the heart of Colwood as it follows the old railway line on its 55km journey from Victoria to Sooke.
"The new Colwood gateway bridge will allow for a safe, seamless connection that encourages more residents and visitors to travel in and around Colwood on foot or by bike, supporting the city's goals for improved health and well-being, easing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and reducing our climate impact," according to the City of Colwood website.
