The Cowichan Valley Regional District will be hosting a public hearing on Oct. 20 to gather people’s input on the ongoing work to create a single Official Community Plan for all of the nine electoral areas in the district.
OCPs are designed to create some ground rules in the electoral areas and provide guidance for where and how residents want future growth to be developed.
The public hearing will cover a wide variety of topics that will be contained in the OCP, including polices and objectives, development-permit areas, agricultural land maps, First Nation reserve maps, growth-containment boundaries, growth areas, and more.
Attendance at the public hearing, which begins at 5 p.m., may be in person at the CVRD’s board room at 175 Ingram St., in accordance with room capacity.
Registration is required for online participation at the public hearing, and the CVRD is recommending that people register several days in advance on the CVRD’s website to ensure device and audio compatibility.
People can also join the public hearing webinar by calling 1-833-311-4101 and when prompted, enter 2772 655 9199 and, when prompted again, enter the password 83272779 and wait to be connected.
Calling in does not require pre-registration.
“Anyone who considers themselves affected by a proposed bylaw amendment will be afforded a reasonable opportunity to be heard at the public hearing, or to submit written comments,” the CVRD said.
“All submissions will form part of the public hearing record. Please note that personal information, including phone numbers and email addresses should not be included in your submission, and other information protected under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, will be redacted before being published online by the CVRD."
