As BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) continues to battle the Munro Lake blaze in Peachland, cooler temperatures and rainy weather are helping the conditions.
In BCWS's latest update, which came just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, the fire is now an estimated 381 hectares in size.
"We are entering a downtrend in weather, meaning cooler temperatures and precipitation in some areas of the region," said BCWS in the update. "We can expect higher relative humidities throughout the region in the coming week."
While it's not know how much yet, it rained on Tuesday morning, with a 40 per cent chance of showers remaining throughout the day. However, there is a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.
Additionally, the Okanagan, Similkameen, Shuswap, and North Thompson are all under an special air quality advisory on Tuesday due to local smoke.
The fire continues to display Rank 2 behaviour, meaning a low vigorous surface fire with an inorganized or inconsistent flame front and a slow rate of spread. However, strong winds are expected within the coming days.
All evacuation alerts remain in place, as well as the evacuation order for ZipZone Adventure Park at 5875 Brenda Mines Road. The map of the affected areas can be found here.
There are currently 84 BCWS firefighters responding to the scene as well as three helicopters, structure protection, and heavy equipment crews.
"Crews and heavy equipment continue to prioritize work along the east flank of the fire, conducting mop-up up to 100 feet in from the fires edge," said BCWS. "Crews will continue to establish and reinforce containment lines along the perimeter of this wildfire."
The fire was discovered on Sept. 25. As of Tuesday morning, it is one of just five out-of-control wildfires in the province.
