One man died after a crash in Saanich on Highway 1 that created chaos as police investigated on Thursday (Oct. 2) afternoon.
The crash was likely caused by a medical event, Saanich Police Department said in a news release.
“This is a tragic loss, and our thoughts are with the family, and everyone affected,” said Insp. Damian Kowalewich.
While there are no indications that any other factors contributed, because of the seriousness of the incident the department is continuing to investigate “to understand the details surrounding the event.”
A second person received injuries in the collision and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police closed northbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway near the McKenzie interchange for several hours to investigate, reopening by 5:30 p.m.
