Nate Grinevitch scored the Islanders' second goal in a 3-2 loss to the Port Alberni Bombers on Oct. 4.

Just one game was on the books for the Kerry Park Islanders this past weekend and it was an Oct. 4 tilt against the visiting Port Alberni Bombers.

Still looking for their first win, the Isles had a shot against the Bombers, who were 1-4-1 on the road headed into the game.

After two Bombers goals, Mill Bay's Wade Enger scored his first as an Islander at the 13:47 mark of the opening period to pull his team to within a goal headed into the intermission.

A third goal from Port Alberni made it 3-1 midway through the second period, but Nate Grinevitch got one back on the power-play several minutes later. That proved to be the last goal as the Isles fell by a 3-2 score.

Joshua Dubreuil took the loss in goal for the Isles despite stopping 43 of 46 shots on goal.

"The team is working to stay focused on getting that first win," said head coach Jake Ebner.

The Islanders play Oct. 8, against the league-leading Westshore Wolves at the Q Centre.

"In the VIJHL you're not on the bus for too long but it's always good to get on the bus," Ebner said.

In other league news, the Lake Cowichan Kraken have now lost three in a row and dropped to fourth in the North Division after starting the season on a high.

In their lone game of the weekend on Oct. 3 at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena, the Kraken scored just one goal in a 4-1 loss to the Oceanside Generals.

The goal came from veteran Luke Bennett, his first of the season, 43 seconds into the second period. Kadin Bilajbegovis and Aleksander Leonelli assisted.

"It was a tough loss," Leonelli said following the game. "We need a good week at practice to bounce back. It's still early in the season. We just have some minor things we need to clean up."

The Kraken play host to the Westshore Wolves on Oct. 10. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
