Chemainus Classical Concerts is ushering in the fall with “The Turning of the Leaves”, a performance by acclaimed guitarist Simon Farintosh. The concert takes place Sunday, Oct. 5 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Chemainus.
Farintosh, a Victoria-based guitarist, composer and educator, will perform a wide-ranging program featuring original compositions, reinterpretations of works by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Alexander Scriabin, and selections by Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Yoshimatsu, Liova Bueno and Ralph Towner.
Known for his unconventional programming that blends genres, Farintosh was named one of CBC’s “30 Under 30 Classical Musicians” in 2023. His playing and compositions regularly earn top honours in national and international competitions.

He is also completing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Toronto, where he studies with Jorge Caballero and Dr. Jeffrey McFadden.
The Oct. 5 program includes Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s 'Los Caprichos de Goya', Yoshimatsu’s 'Sky Color Tensor', Farintosh’s own 'Sunlit Shallows', and a set of original arrangements, including Debussy’s 'La sérénade interrompue' and Ravel’s 'Pavane pour une infante défunte'.
