Calgary Wild FC defeats Vancouver Rise FC 2-1

The Calgary Wild FC defeated the Vancouver Rise FC 2-1 during its last regular game of the season.

The Wild FC took on the Vancouver Rise FC at McMahon Stadium in Calgary Thursday (Oct. 16), holding possession for 40 per cent of the time and taking seven shots, three of which were on goal. While Rise FC held possession 59 per cent and took 18 shots, eight of which were on goal.  

Wild FC's Meggie Dougherty-Howard opened up the scoring in the 39th minute, followed by Kahli Johnson in the 46th. 

Rise FC's  Jessica De Filippo scored the sole goal of the match for Vancouver during a penalty kick in the 71st minute. 

The top four teams in the league will play in the semifinals, with all four securing their spots: AFC Toronto, Montreal Roses, Ottawa Rapid, and Vancouver Rise FC. The final is scheduled for Nov. 15 at BMO Field in Toronto.  

Vancouver Rise are part of Canada's first professional women's soccer league, the Northern Super League. The other clubs are Calgary Wild FC, Halifax Tides FC, Montréal Roses, Ottawa Rapid FC and AFC Toronto.
