Just 19 days after voting to give themselves a 35 per cent raise, the trustees of Quesnel School District No. 28 have rescinded the matter.

The decision to rescind the raise came in a board of education special meeting on Monday, Oct. 6.

"All of us sitting around that table are human, and like anyone, we make mistakes," education board vice-chair Lisa Boudreau said on a Facebook post. "When we know better, we do better. I take my own personal accountability seriously, and strive to do better moving forward."

The once-approved raise (which took place on Sept. 17) would've upped each trustee's salary by $5,000 a year, from $14,321 to $19,321. However, the move came with much controversy and pushback from local teachers, parents and the BC Teachers’ Federation.
