B.C. artist wins twice at Canadian Country Music Awards in Kelowna

Country music fans watched Nanaimo’s Cameron Whitcomb walk away with two honours at the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards at Prospera Place on Saturday (Sept. 13) night. 

Whitcomb took home the Fans’ Choice and Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year awards. 

Ontario's Josh Ross scooped Entertainer of the Year honours as well as Single of the Year for Single Again, and Video of the Year for the same song. Whitcomb and Ross had six nominations each.

Album of the Year went to Owen Riegling for Bruce County (From The Beginning). 

Mackenzie Porter was named Female Artist of the Year, Jade Eagleson took home the Male Artist of the Year award, and James Barker Band was honoured with Group or Duo of the Year. Francophone Artist of the Year was presented to Salebarbes.

Other winners:

  • Musical Collaboration of the Year: Broken Heart Thing – Madeline Merlo feat. Dustin Lynch
  • Alternative Country Album of the Year: One More Dollar To Go – Jake Vaadeland
  • Songwriter(s) of the Year: Kelly Archer, Travis Denning, Chris Stevens – I’m Gonna Love You (Artist: Cody Johnson and Carrie Underwood)

This was the first time Kelowna has hosted Country Music Week and the CCMA Awards.

“The city’s unique charm, complemented by its urban energy, will showcase the best in Canadian country music,” CCMA president Amy Jeninga said when Kelowna was chosen as host in April 2024.
