A snake found abandoned in a Sooke parking lot embarks on its new life as an educator after a stint in care at the Capital Regional District Animal Shelter.
Sable the rat and Ivory the ball python were taken to the shelter in Saanich after a Sooke Potholes Regional Park visitor found a ball python, wrapped in a pillowcase, and a roof rat in a small box left beside their parked vehicle.
The snake was dubbed Ivory and the rat, Sable.
Ivory had injures to her head and was treated by a veterinarian before returning to the shelter to heal.
Sable went up for adoption recently and staff have already found Ivory a new home.
“We’re thrilled to share that Ivory the snake has found a new place to slither. She’s now living with a few other rescued reptiles and will be part of educational programs to help teach others about caring for these fascinating creatures,” the shelter announced. “And so ends the sweet and unexpected story of Ivory the snake and Sable the rat – easily the oddest couple we've ever seen at the shelter... but probably not the last.”
Anyone interested in adopting Sable can contact the shelter at 250-658-5745 or pop in to 5401 Pat Bay Hwy., Monday to Saturday between 1 and 4 p.m. Learn more about the shelter crd.ca/programs-services/animals-pets.
